Unbusy Your Business

Company Values

I know, I know. Business values are a cliche.

We’ve all read those generic company values pages that recycle the same old tired “values” – integrity, people first, continuous learning, do the right thing, blah, blah – with no detail or explanation about what those words actually mean to the company.

This is not that.

This page is our real, honest, true attempt at conveying to you the things we believe in here at Unbusy Your Business, how we operate as a team, and the standards we hold ourselves to in our work.

Be the good guy.

(They really do always win.)

Being the good guy is about doing right by people, following through on your commitments, and having integrity. Our team once missed a client’s email and didn’t respond to their request for follow-up services for two months. When I realized the mistake, I immediately reached out to apologize and offered to complete the follow-up request (close to $1,000 worth of time) for free.

We’re all human, and mistakes are inevitable. But we do our best to rectify them equitably.

Sometimes being the good guy is also what’s best for the bottom line. But when it’s not, reputation outweighs profit every time.

Even if the right move isn’t the one that puts you on “top”, you took care of your people and stayed true to your values. That’s the biggest win of all.

Practice compassionate candor.

We believe in open and honest communication, whether it’s telling a client when a system, tool, or idea isn’t working or giving direct feedback on a team member’s work.

Direct communication is a requirement for success in any relationship, especially in business. But without compassion and understanding, it can come across as an attack, and no one likes to feel criticized.

At Unbusy, we aim to say the hard things when the time requires it and to deliver those messages in a way that promotes connection and vulnerability. To be clear and honest while being sensitive and supportive. And to avoid condescension and passive aggression at all costs.

Ask the question.

We love puppies. They’re adorable, enthusiastic, and they follow you everywhere without hesitation. Cute in a creature, not in a team.

We’re curious, questioning critical thinkers, not puppies. Questioning is key to problem-solving, and we’re nothing if not excellent problem solvers. Our approach to solving problems is:

  • If you think of a question, ask it. Even if you think it’s dumb.

  • Dig deeper. Keep going until you have all the information.

  • Discuss the options. Listen with the intent to understand, not respond.

  • Once you have all the information and have heard all the arguments, the solution becomes clear. If the solution isn’t clear, keep asking questions.

If you work with us, be forewarned — we ask a lot of questions.

Give your best every day.

Your best today may look different than your best tomorrow, yesterday, or a year from now. It’s natural. Experience, knowledge, and life circumstances all play a role in what our “best” looks like on any given day.

Some days, I can wake up and crank out 8 hours of productive work. Others, my “best” is taking care of the bare minimum so nothing falls behind.

Giving your best isn’t about showing up perfectly, working to burnout, or never making mistakes. It’s about building the muscle of showing up consistently, putting your best foot forward. It’s about delivering work you’re proud of and nothing less.

Build together.

We strongly believe in the value of co-creation — as a team and with our clients. We’re not in business just to sell things, we’re in business to help people. That’s why we look to our community and clients before creating any new products or services; when we understand the need, we can create better solutions.

As a team, we co-create by sharing ideas, asking for and providing feedback when needed, and holding each other accountable for delivering great work.

Find the balance.

At Unbusy, we believe in working smarter, not longer. Value delivered is the best measure of success, not time, and more hours ≠ higher productivity.

Of course, some seasons are busier, and some projects need more time. Whatever the case, we always do what’s required to get the job done right. But we never work just for the sake of logging hours.

Balance also includes finding fulfillment outside of work. In a world where technology has created the expectation of being constantly online, we believe the best parts of life are lived offscreen. For me, that means a commitment to work-free Saturdays, weekly mid-day pick-up volleyball, and volunteering at a local wildlife rescue.

And occasionally working until 2am to fit all those things in. That’s a tradeoff I can live with. It’s balance.

What do you think – do our values align?

I love working with clients whose values align with mine. People who are curious, compassionate, and committed to serving their clients to the best of their ability.

If that sounds like you and you’re ready to reclaim your time and energy by simplifying, streamlining, and automating your business, then I would love to work with you.
